Leg 1 Race 2 - finishing line

At 2325 GMT (2025 local time - 17/10/05) Westernaustralia Clipper crossed the finish line off the Farol de Barra, Salvador, to take first place in Race 2 of the Clipper 05-06 Round The World Race. Skipper David Pryce and crew maintained a strong position from early on in the race, leading for much of the latter part. Eventually good tactics coupled with fast boat speeds ensured a comfortable win for the Australians who will be the first to sample the legendary hospitality of the Centro Nautico da Bahia.

At 0049 GMT Liverpool crossed just ahead of Cardiff, beating the Welsh boat by just 3 minutes after three and a half thousand miles. Cardiff finished at 0052 GMT. Both boats are now approaching the harbour where fireworks, fruit and Caipirinhas await.

At 0312GMT (0012 local time in salvador), New York Clipper crossed the finish line to take 4th place. Durban was approximately 8 miles behind and so should finish within the next hour.

If we maintain the speed and winds are good... Uniquely Singapore will be 6th and should be coming in later in the day... well done guys. it's been a hard sail.
